According to the Student Health and Welfare Regulations, suspension for health reasons is a benefit for those students who for health reasons only (physical or mental) are unable to continue their studies from the current semester. The purpose of the suspension is to allow the student to undergo treatment that will allow him/her to recover and return to academic activities.
The deadlines are established by the academic calendar, and the way to apply is exclusively through this web page. The requested documents must be sent in their entirety by mail, at the time of applying for this benefit to be evaluated by a committee of experts.

What are the requirements for a health suspension?
To suspend for health, you must be a current student and have a physical or mental health problem that significantly interferes with your overall functioning and academic performance.
How do I access the health suspension request forms?
To access the different forms, you must have your UC email (not a personal one) open.
How will the Health Suspension Commission communicate with students who are requesting a health suspension measure or return to academic activity?
The means of communication will be through the UC mail. You must keep an eye on your UC email until you receive the Commission’s resolution regarding your application.
Can a health suspension be requested to lower the academic load of a semester?
It is not possible to lower the academic load, health suspensions are applied to the total academic load of the student, and for the totality of careers they are studying. If you need to make adjustments to your academic load, you should consult this possibility directly with your academic unit.
What documents must the student have to apply?
– Regular student certificate for the current semester
– Photocopy of the Identity Card on both sides.
– Cumulative Academic Record.
– Medical history/medical exams (if applicable or for physical health suspensions) (optional)
– Report from the treating professional of the specialty to support the request for suspension for health reasons. If you have been seen by a Student Health and Wellness psychologist, this does not need to be attached.

Where should I send the documents to suspend or request reinstatement to academic activity?
The documents are uploaded through the forms that you find on this website and that vary depending on the reason for academic suspension (for physical or mental health, reinstatement, etc.) and the type of treating professional.
Applications that are not formally submitted or submitted by another means will not be evaluated.
Inquiries are not received via email, telephone or in person as all the information for the process can be found on the website.
Can I partially upload the documents?
Incomplete applications will not be formally entered, they will be discarded by the Health Suspensions Commission.
Can I suspend for health reasons, without having a treating professional?
If you are requesting a suspension for mental health reasons, you can make the request without having a treating professional. In that case, you will be summoned for an evaluation interview by the Health Suspensions Commission.
In what cases can a student be summoned to an evaluation interview?
– When a student requests a mental health suspension and is not in mental health treatment.
– When a student repeatedly requests the measure
– When the background information presented by the student is insufficient for the Health Suspension Commission
– When a student requests indefinite suspension
– When a student requests reinstatement to academic activity.
What happens if I don’t show up for an evaluation time scheduled by the Health Commission?
It is a requirement for students who may be summoned to an evaluation interview to be available to attend the interview with a professional from the Health Suspension Commission. The notification of this time will be through your UC email.
Evaluation hours are awarded according to the date of entry of your application, they are highly demanded hours, so it is required that the student is available to attend on the date and time indicated by the Commission.
If you do not show up at the time of evaluation, the Health Suspensions Commission will cancel your application and must start the process again, if applicable.
What if I want to suspend for health reasons, but I don’t have a treating doctor?
In cases of mental health, if you do not have an attending physician, we will schedule you for an evaluation, free of charge, with a Student Health and Wellness professional to evaluate your condition and requested measure. For suspensions due to physical health, you can take one hour at the UC CHRISTUS Health Network according to the DAE agreement
About the deadlines
What is the maximum period for my suspension for health reasons each semester?
To suspend the first semester you have from the first day of classes until July 15, and for the second semester from the first day of classes until December 15, within the working day (18 hours).
How long can the Health Suspension Commission take to respond to my request for suspension, from the time I formally admit it?
The Health Suspensions Commission has a period of between 4 to 6 weeks from the time the formal entry of the application is made, In case the student must be summoned to an evaluation interview, these deadlines could increase.
Can I suspend the second semester, even if the first semester is in effect?
No, the application will be rejected as there are specific deadlines to suspend each semester, and you can request it again when the semester to be suspended comes into effect.
If I failed one or two semesters, do I need to request a refund in order to enroll in courses?
No, the student who has passed a suspension for 1 or 2 academic semesters, at the end of the period of validity of the measure, automatically returns to his/her status as a regular student and is eligible to enroll in courses in the current period
When and how is a suspension for health reasons formally entered?
An application is formally entered when all complete and error-free documentation is received by the Health Suspension Commission.
When and how will I be notified of the resolution of the Health Suspension Commission to my request for a health suspension?
The Health Suspensions Commission will inform you of the response to your request for suspension for health reasons through the academic resolution that will be sent to you via UC email.
In case your application is rejected, it will also be informed via UC email.
In what case can I request a suspension due to health after the deadline?
Applications are not received after the deadline, except in exceptional situations established in the Student Health and Welfare Regulations (Art.25: recent hospitalization of the student, recent bereavement of an immediate family member and psychosis), these exceptions must be duly accredited by the student.

You can apply for the measure whenever you have physical or mental health problems that interfere with your academic and global functioning in a significant way. From what date does my health suspension start to be effective?

How can I request reinstatement to academic activity?
Students who have an indefinite health suspension and want to return to academic activity must do so through the link reinstatement to the university, where the required documentation is indicated. The external treatment report for reimbursement must be completed by the treating professionals, where they must give an account of the evolution of the treatment and the reasons for requesting reimbursement.
All students who request reinstatement to academic activity are summoned to an evaluation interview by a professional from the Health Suspension Commission.
When should I request a return to academic activity?
When you have an indefinite health suspension in force, and together with your treating professionals they consider that you are in favorable conditions to return to academic activity next semester.
If I have failed one or two semesters, do I have to request reinstatement to academic activity in order to enroll in courses?
No, the return to academic activity is only for students who have been approved for an indefinite health suspension. Students who have approved a suspension measure of 1 or 2 academic semesters, when the validity of the measure expires, automatically return to their status as regular students, being able to register courses in the periods determined by the University for this purpose.
What are the deadlines for requesting reinstatement to academic activity?
To return to the first semester, the deadline is October 30 of the previous semester.
To return to the second semester, the deadline is May 31 of the previous semester.

In what cases can a third party request a suspension for health reasons for the student?
The Health Suspension Commission receives requests for suspension for health from a third party on behalf of the student, understanding as a third party the mother, father or legal guardian, when a student is hospitalized at the time of wanting to make the request or when he or she has serious health problems that prevent the student from making the request by himself/herself.
In order for a third party to represent the student in his/her application, the third party must attach a copy of his/her identity card and a power of attorney, in addition to the regular documentation requested to request a health suspension.
Can I retract my request for suspension or reinstatement once the request has been formally submitted?
No, requests for suspension due to health or reinstatement to academic activity are irreversible, once they are formally entered by the Commission of Suspensions for Health and Reinstatement to Academic Activity. The formal entry of a request for suspension due to health or return to academic activity is notified to the student via UC email.
The resolution of the Committee on Suspensions for Health and Reinstatement to Academic Activity in relation to a request for suspension due to health or reinstatement to academic activity is final.
During the processing period of my request for suspension due to health, is the payment of the monthly payment frozen?
No, payment is frozen once a health suspension request has been approved from the date on which the formal entry of the request was made.
In what case can I request a suspension due to health after the deadline?
Applications are not received after the deadline, except in exceptional situations established in the Student Health and Welfare Regulations (Art.25: recent hospitalization of the student, recent bereavement of an immediate family member and psychosis), these exceptions must be duly accredited by the student and must have occurred in the period in which the regular period to request the suspension for health was about to expire.
What is the deadline for requesting an out-of-time health suspension?
The deadline is 15 days after the expiration of the regular deadline to request the suspension due to health. After this period, the Health Suspensions Commission will not evaluate an application after the deadline.

According to the Student Health and Welfare Regulations, student health information is confidential, protected by the Patient’s Rights and Duties Act, so it cannot be given to third parties, except to third parties authorized by power of attorney.
