The objective of the program is to offer healthier environments for all those who study and work at UC.
In order to enhance the welfare of people, from 2019 the five campuses of the UC -Santiago and Villarrica- are smoke-free zones. This implies that all members of the community must respect the regulations and not smoke inside the university, not even in open spaces on each campus.
This initiative, a pioneer in Chile, is part of the Smoke-Free Campus program, which aims to provide healthier environments for all those who study and work at the UC, in addition to contributing to the care of the environment. In addition, support is provided to those who wish to quit smoking, through free workshops for students, taught by professionals from Health and Student Welfare, and the UC-Christus Health’s Free Yourself from Tobacco program for teachers and employees.
It should be noted that the implementation of the Smoke-Free Campus program throughout the university has been a gradual process of 7 years, which has taken into account the opinion and feedback of students, faculty and staff, with the support of more than 70% of the UC community.
